About Michael Talbot

I have spent more than thirty years in enterprise technology, and almost none of it on standards committees. I have spent it on the other side of the problem: platform implementations, hardware and software asset management, service operations, and the governance that keeps a large program from quietly falling apart between the announcement and the go-live.

That is the work that decides whether a change actually succeeds. I wrote this book because I kept seeing the same pattern. A standard gets published. A deadline gets announced. Vendors produce confident literature. And the people who have to make it work at the register, in the warehouse, or at the help desk are left without a practical account of what to do on Monday morning.

I do not hold GS1 credentials and I have never run a store. What I know is how to take an ambiguous mandate and turn it into something a team can actually execute, test, and defend in a budget review. That is what this book does for Sunrise 2027.
